About the program
Read! Learn! Succeed! is United Way of Franklin County’s early reading initiative. In partnership with Greenfield Kiwanis Club and Franklin First Federal Credit Union, United Way of Franklin County coordinates a monthly story time in 25 preschool classrooms. Dedicated volunteers present the story to the class and afterwards each child receives a copy of that month’s book to take home and add to their library. Through shared love of story telling, volunteers demonstrate the importance of literacy and community engagement to young children across Franklin County.
UPDATE FOR 2020/2021 School Year: We will still be providing books for our young readers, but due to public health restrictions we will be unable to read in the classrooms. Instead, we will provide a video of a volunteer reading the story each month, which can be used in the classroom or in the home. Click here for links to videos!
Why early reading?
The future of our community rests on its people, especially the next generation. Working together we can make a real difference in getting kids off to a good start in school! Research has shown that children who have early and frequent access to reading and books reach higher levels of education than those who do not. Early reading support is a simple, common sense solution but the stakes are high. Click here to find out more from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
