UNITED WAY OF FRANKLIN COUNTY'S DAY OF ACTION

was held on Friday, June 21, 2013, at the Greenfield Town Common. The event collected approximately 5,000 new and "gently" used books for pre-school to middle school aged children. Community volunteers joined us on the common to collect, sort, and bag the books into some 1,300 drawstring backpacks so they could be distributed to children for summer reading. This event aligns with United Way Worldwide's Day of Action, a day established to focus on its pledge to change the course of the future. Watch UWW Day of Action 2012 on the National Mall.

UNITED WAY'S EMERGENCY FOOD AND SHELTER PROGRAM BOARD TO DISTRIBUTE FUNDS TO AGENCIES IN NEED. FEMA FUNDS Phase 30, Fiscal Year 2012, EFSP Funding
The Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) made the required Congressional Notifications regarding Phase 30, Fiscal Year 2012 Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) funds and set the amount of $120,000,000 to be awarded. Of that amount, the United Way of Franklin County's Local Board received a total of $12,970 in emergency funds to be distributed locally. The board deliberated and identified the areas of "Distributed Food" and "Utility Assistance" as top priorities for the current funding period, areas where the limited funding could have the greatest impact on the largest number of people.
