The United Way of Franklin County is the largest non-governmental funder of social services in our county. Through partnership with two dozen local agencies, the United Way of Franklin County Helps to build strong and healthy communities with a focus on four areas:

NURTURING CHILDREN AND YOUTH
In 2009-10, the UWFC will contribute
$219,140 to help support the following
programs:
BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF
FRANKLIN COUNTY (413) 772-0915
matches caring adults and responsible
teen-agers with boys and girls in need
of one-to-one mentoring relationships.
These well-screened and supervised community volunteers act as mentors, role models and friends.
CAMP KEE-WANEE (Greenfield Health Camp) (413) 773-8819 provides an outdoors educational experience emphasizing the integration of special needs children with typical children, focusing on fostering positive self-image and a sense of community.
COMMUNITY YMCA OF GREENFIELD (413) 773-3646 Youth Financial Aid provides YMCA memberships to those who otherwise would not be able to join. School Age Care Programs provides a safe and creative setting for children during times their parents cannot be home.
GIRL SCOUTS OF WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS (413) 584-2602 provides programs and activities that help girls become confident, resourceful and capable young women.
GIRLS CLUB OF GREENFIELD (413) 774-7407 provides daily year-round quality care for toddlers and young children. Childcare and education provided in Greenfield at The Girls Club and Shelburne Falls at Valley Play School. Camp Lion Knoll summer camp provides care and outdoor education through the summer months.
GREAT TRAILS COUNCIL, BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA (413) 684-3542 involves children in local camporees and community service projects that instill values and promotes ethical conduct.
ORANGE RECREATION ASSOCIATION (978) 544-2254 provides low-cost, recreational programs for all age groups throughout the year.
LIFETIMES (PROGRAM FOR GRIEVING CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES) (413)773-3484 to train volunteers to assist children who have lost a parent or some other loved one to cope with death. The program also provides parents with support on how to help their children cope with loss.
YOUNG ENTREPRENUERS SOCIETY (YES) (978) 544-1865 teaches entrepreneurship, job readiness and personal finance to young people, especially those who have dropped out of school or on the verge of dropping out of school, to enhance their current and future economic productivity by improving their business, academic and life skills.
STRENGTHENING FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS
In 2009-10 the United Way will contribute $105,729 to help support the following programs
ATHOL SALVATION ARMY (978) 249-8111 Social Development Programs provides weekly fellowship groups, scouting-type programs, musical instruction and after school recreation and homework help.
CLINICAL AND SUPPORT OPTIONS, INC. (413) 774-1000 Elder Peer Counseling supports elders who are experiencing difficulties in aging. The Day Rehabilitation Program provides a structured day program for persons with mental illnesses.
COMMUNITY ACTION! (413) 774-2318 Family & Support Services – 1st Call for Help provides information, referral and advocacy around any concern. WIC provides supplemental food and nutrition education and counseling to low-income women and children. Youth Programs provides at-risk and disadvantaged youth with individual counseling, therapeutic groups and recreational programs.
FRIENDS OF CHILDREN (413) 586-0011 AAMP (Adolescent Advocacy Mentoring Project) CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) work to improve the lives of vulnerable children through advocacy and community education to improve their lives and their life chances.
NELCWIT (413) 772-0871 (New England Learning Center for Women in Transition) Counseling and Advocacy provides rape counseling and ongoing support for survivors of domestic violence and rape.
UNITED ARC OF FRANKLIN AND HAMPSHIRE COUNTIES (413) 774-5558 Positive Parenting – Family Friends serves parents with cognitive limitations and their children.
ENHANCING HEALTH AND WELLNESS
In 2009-10 the United Way will contribute $102,863 to help support the following programs:
AMERICAN RED CROSS (413) 774-4376 Franklin County Blood Services conducts blood drives to meet the needs of Franklin County. Health & Safety Services provides training in CPR, First Aid, water safety, life guarding and babysitting skills.
CLINICAL SUPPORT OPTIONS (413) 74-1000 Wellness Initiative Provides individuals with tools and support to ensure they live healthy, full-rounded lifestyles that will promote happiness, good mental and physical health, enhanced lifestyles and ultimately lengthen lifespan.
COMMUNITY YMCA OF GREENFIELD (413) 773-3646 Adaptive Aquatics Program provides use of the swimming pool and special pool programs for the elderly and those with limited mobility.
COMMUNITY ACTION (413) 774-2318 Family Learning Center provides a variety of supporting services that increase the likelihood of educational success for two generations of at-risk citizens: young adults who have dropped out of school and their very young children.
NORTH QUABBIN CITIZEN ADVOCACY (978) 249-7769 provides protection and advocacy for vulnerable people by fostering and supporting one-to-one personal relationships.
STAVROS Center for Independent Living (413) 256-0473 enables persons with disabilities to sustain their independence and to take responsibility for their lives.
UNITED ARC OF FRANKLIN AND HAMPSHIRE COUNTIES (413) 774-5558 Self Advocacy Services provides advocacy services to developmentally disabled and disadvantaged individuals. Educational Advocacy will recruit and train volunteers to help families/special education students who need support and assistance.
CARING FOR THOSE IN CRISIS
In 2009-10, the United Way will contribute $156,362. to help support the following programs:
AMERICAN RED CROSS (413) 774-4376 Emergency Disaster Services provides immediate emergency assistance and resources to families who have been involved in disaster, primarily a house fire.
AMHERST SURVIVAL CENTER (413) 549-3968 The Survival Center promotes the health and wellbeing of low income residents of Franklin & Hampshire Counties by promoting for their basic needs, which includes food, clothing, and health care.
COMMUNITY ACTION! (413) 774-2318 Center for Self Reliance Food Pantries provides nutritious food to those in need.
FRANKLIN COUNTY COMMUNITY MEALS PROGRAM (413)-772-1033 Food provides free meals in Greenfield, Turners Falls, and Orange; and operates a food pantry in Orange.
NELCWIT (413) 772-0871 (New England Learning Center for Women in Transition) Sheltering provides a safe haven for battered women and their children.
SALVATION ARMY GREENFIELD WORSHIP AND SERVICE CENTER (413) 773-3154 Emergency Assistance provides for immediate short-term needs of individuals & families.

SERVICENET (413) 584-7329 Family Shelters - The Family Inns provide shelter, food and supportive services for homeless families from Franklin County. Individual Shelters - This transitional program provides shelter, food and supportive services for homeless individuals from Franklin County.
